I can not find it but I am a horrific hoarder and found the original copy. Yes I am that person. This is the very brief blog I wrote about it :</p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Ten Years Of The 10th
Kingdom<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Recently I re-watched the entire 7 hour extravaganza that is
The 10th Kingdom.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Shockingly
– to me anyway this programme is coming up to being 10 years old, how did that
happen?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This programme – for those that
haven’t seen it, is a wonderful story set in the 9 Kingdoms of fairytale. Snow
White, Cinderella and Red Riding Hood were real people who lived in this
alternate world. A young woman and her father accidently get sucked into this magical
place through a magic mirror and go on an amazing adventure trying to find
their way back home, and end up finding so much more.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">How does it hold up after ten years? Pretty blimmin well
actually, the effects still look pretty good, the scenery is still jaw droppingly
amazing. It’s quite a lot cheesier then I remember but that isn’t that much of
problem and is in a way charming. It’s funnier then I remembered and slightly
more OTT. The cast is wonderful, Scott Cohen as the Big Bad Wolf steals the
entire show, slightly creepy at first, incredibly adorable and conflicted and the
fact that he is very easy to look at all add up to a wonderful performance. There
are a multitude of guest stars, including Dianne Wiest (whom is a big personal
favourite for me, I love that lady), Warwick Davies, Rutger Hauer, Robert Hardy
and Jimmy Nail. The lead character Virginia is played beautifully by Kimberly
Williams-Paisley. I found that I enjoyed this just as much second time around
and ten years later! <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The 10th Kingdom had so much going for it, an
amazing ensemble cast, wonderful effects and scenery, humour, a poignant core,
a fabulous scene with Trolls singing Saturday Night Fever, so I really can’t
understand why the ratings were so poor.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Right at the end we are told this is story is chapter one in the book of
The 10th Kingdom, and I actually felt so sad that it wasn’t – it was
the entire story, not quite the Happy Ever After I am sure the creators were
hoping for and a big shame for us too.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> [end]</o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p><br /></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p>So here we are ten years at least after that. I enjoyed it more this time then I seemed to this time around. Meet me back here in the year 2033 and we will see what I think then! :-D </o:p></p>Stacey Whittlehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14250094841139449131noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1323048292610368595.post-62073589170710190112020-08-27T11:30:00.002+01:002020-08-27T12:11:14.543+01:00Episode 9: Not Live<p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Xw2LqmDTiIk" width="320" youtube-src-id="Xw2LqmDTiIk"></iframe></div><br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Welcome to Episode 9 of Whittle Waffle. I absolutely love this blog that I wrote for SFX in 2013. I don't like the original title, which was The Passion of the Geek - I dunno what I was thinking, so I 've changed it. I totally can, it's my blog! This is like every episode of Comic Book Men (have you seen it, I love it, the whole lot is on Prime, defo worth a look) the bit's that I like best anyway - the geek fighting, erm I mean 'discussions' , the standoff's ah yes, the passion! </div>

The passion of geeks is an amazing thing; it can be exciting
and occasionally demented but stems from a place of love. Generally if you are
a geek then you are a little bit obsessive and often in the good way that leads
to one of my favourite things about being a geeky person. Arguing with other
geeks! Isn’t it brilliant? It lets you show off your (sometimes quite
terrifying amounts of) knowledge, it lets your tribe know that you belong and –
if the discussion manages to hang on to a sense of humour and doesn’t
degenerate into a fight – you might learn something whilst supporting some of
your favourite geeky passions.<o:p></o:p></div>

💓1) Who is the best Doctor Who? Now, you may have an opinion
on this subject – and let’s face it even my 6 year old has an opinion on this –
but unless your answer is Patrick Troughton then I’m afraid you are wrong and
here is why: he is perfection from the tip of his ruffled hair to the bottom of
his baggy trousers. He gives a really real and believable performance, there’s
times when he is obviously quite frightened (see Seeds Of Death whilst banging
on the weather control centre’s door) and his quiet moments with his companions
are beautiful (Tomb Of The Cybermen – his reflections on how he deals with the
death of his family and kindness towards Victoria is very moving) but also his
utter joy in the role (see The Three Doctors - he is plainly relishing every
second). The fact that I love his craggy face with somewhat of a passion has
nothing to do with it at all. This is a totally reasoned argument based on fact
and not just me squeeing “but I loooooove him” but I do – fact! (My 6 year olds
favourite veers between The Doctor With The Pointy Face and The Doctor With The
Curly Hair – I’m training her though!) <o:p></o:p></div>

💓2) Which is the best series of (insert classic fantasy/sci
fi telly choice) let’s do one of my all-time favourites – Red Dwarf. The best
series beyond a shadow of a doubt of Red Dwarf is series 2. Yes it is – no
you’re wrong it’s definitely 2. The thing is this, every other series has at
least one stand out episode – yes even that series! But series 2 never drops
the ball – not for a second and yes I know that Grant and Naylor became
producers after this series which contributed to the next series looking slicker,
but it never needed to look slick as far as I am concerned. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The sci fi elements thrown into the mix in
this series are breath-taking, the writing is hilarious and the characters
haven’t taken on that confident edge that happens later on, when they almost
become caricatures of themselves. We have 6 episodes of the most quotable Dwarf
and we have memory implants, rebelling robots, we have total immersion video
games, we have time travel though stasis leaks, we have a parallel universe and
we have a triple fried egg sarnie with chili sauce and chutney. How can you top
that? <o:p></o:p></div>

into other televisions series – the answer is almost always series 2 for

heartbreak of Angels defection can still stir me auld heartstrings. “Passion” –
the episode that just about broke my heart and then “I Only Have Eyes For You”
which did in fact shatter it. Then the rollercoaster of ‘Becoming” parts 1 and
2 – to be honest I still don’t think I’m over it! <o:p></o:p></div>

So the Good Omen's mini series then, well, it really isn't the adaptation the fans of this beloved book will be craving. It is entirely the Crowley and Aziraphale show and that is both its strength and its weakness.<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">Strength because these characters are funny and adorable and we already love them and because Michael Sheen and David Tennant have been perfectly cast. Each inhabiting the skin of their character so utterly you forget what your own mental image of the two was like. And because the chemistry between the actor's is almost tangible. We see their relationship develop over 6000 years and it is hurt your heart and tummy lovely without being cloying or overly sweet or overly in your face. It is heart warming. </span></div>
<br>
And weakness, because this perfect, wonderful relationship and character development is at the expense of almost every other part of the story. The kids man, where are the Them? And where are the Four Horseman and especially the 'other' Four Horseman?<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs3l7UkRy0hQM10I1k9llveoftbejajqPR65RF1iKbCoqd953r0t7kZj5TZQgNBtoW8h21idBx4c6MTuAmNbclvML-LDecgSzV0SiJ0J6G6wvEYwuXF3nOXkNtzCylqlzZ4pCNbU-YroU/s1600/goodomens_106_09605_rt_fnl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="780" data-original-width="1170" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs3l7UkRy0hQM10I1k9llveoftbejajqPR65RF1iKbCoqd953r0t7kZj5TZQgNBtoW8h21idBx4c6MTuAmNbclvML-LDecgSzV0SiJ0J6G6wvEYwuXF3nOXkNtzCylqlzZ4pCNbU-YroU/s320/goodomens_106_09605_rt_fnl.jpg" width="320"></a></div>
<br>
These aren't just throw away character's who don't drive the plot, these characters ARE the plot to a large extent. I understand why the soaked little sister is missing and Greasy Johnson et al. But that feeling of lots of strands coming together, all parts of the story congregating at the big finale, that is missing. The feeling of urgency and I don't know...threat it just isn't there.<br>
<br>
I do, however, like that the Queen joke remained.<br>
<br>
From an acting point of view, some of the cast were stellar. As previously said, Tennant and Sheen are exceptional but Pepper (Amma Ris) didn't do it for me, I always think of Pepper as strong and opinionated rather than stroppy and overbearing, which is sadly how she came across, like Hermione in the first Harry Potter. Adam (Sam Taylor Buck) was nearly but not quite there, some element of charming just missing. But close. The rest of the actors were sadly underused, I wanted more of Miranda Richardson and particularly of Michael Mckean. I definitely wanted more horseman action (I don't understand why the introduction to War scene was changed, I loved that bit in the book, timing or cost I imagine). And Pollution, beautifully realised and mostly forgotten. I did however absolutely love John Hamm's ramped up Gabriel, isn't he just wonderful?<br>
<br>
And let us talk about Anathema a moment, Adria Ajona is a stunningly beautiful woman and a fabulous actress, the fault was not her's but with the material there, Anathema is a bit of a oddly written character, like the writer's had an idea of what a woman is but couldn't quite make one,she is an approximation of a woman. It is a shame that couldn't have been ironed out a little, Agnes is a far more interesting character isn't she?<br>

That sounds quite negative but overall I thoroughly enjoyed this mini series, the opening credit's with their quirky animation, the music, the spectacle of it made it unmissable event. There is still plenty of joy and excitement to be found here. And though I think the soul of the story is somewhat missing, the heart of it is absolutely there, right on it's sleeve.<br>
<br>
Because I love the credit's so much I am so sticking them in here!<br>

Nothing much has changed in my opinion about this sublime bit o gorgeousness, Yesterday's Enterprise, not only outstanding Trek but outstanding telly. I think as I am aging I am even more nostalgic for 80's and 90's telly. I mean I didn't watch Seinfeld first time round but I am caning about 4 eps a night of that at the moment. It isn't like we haven't got a plethora of awesome geek telly at the moment, and the list of things I want to watch is longer than reasonable. But these things, they hold such a place in my heart. Such a big place. Is it because this is the telly that shaped me, this is where my geekdom developed? Maybe, but it really is just good telly too. </span></div>

unmissable television for all of us, and I have very fond memories of sitting
in the dark (that’s how my parents like to watch television) glued to the
screen. ST:TNG is my Star Trek, the way Peter Davidson will always deep down be
my doctor and though rewatching episodes now – as I have been thanks to one of
the Sky channels showing reruns – sometimes shows it up a little or dates it
quite a lot or is somewhat embarrassing in its OTT and technobabbly ways there
is so much still to love and be in awe of. And while the Borg episodes are up
there with innovation and terror and the final episodes can still reduce me to
a weeping mass on the floor. This episode; Yesterday’s Enterprise is a shining
pinnacle of what Next Gen could achieve.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

episode so please humour me and wallow in the nostalgia too! <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The premise of the episode is that our Enterprise (the
Enterprise D) comes across a time rift in space from which a ship emerges and
instantaneously everything changes. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The
Federation have now been involved in a long and bloody war with the Klingons
and the ship itself changes, the Bridge is completely different, darker, busier
and most shocking of all, Worf is gone and in his place is Tasha Yar his dead
predecessor! Guinan is the only one who notices the change and understands the
only way to correct the timeline is to send the new ship back. The new ship is
the Enterprise C, a ship which was destroyed 20 years earlier defending a
Klingon outpost from a Romulan attack. This ship is run by Captain Garrett,
when she is apprised of the circumstances she tells Captain Picard they will
stay and fight, he explains to her how bad the situation is and that the
Federation is only months away from defeat, but that if her ship went back – on
a recognised suicide mission – it could save them all. The decision is made,
but while preparations are made Klingon Warbirds attack, killing Captain
Garrett and Tasha having been told of her previous fate by Guinan asks for and
receives a transfer to the Enterprise C. The ship returns to its proper
timeline and normality instantly resumes.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: "Arial",sans-serif; font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Everything about this episode is sublime and perfect. The
changes in the Enterprise D are many and appropriate; the darkness, the
busyness, the lack of Troi – who needs a counsellor in time of war? The slight
differences in character are subtle and beautifully portrayed - gone is Picard
the diplomat, the assessor, the man who will take ideas and leads from his
staff, instead here is Picard the general who is completely in charge, gone is
his easy relationship with Riker – and his portrayal is far less confident than
the Riker we know. 10 Forward has a more canteen like look where rations are
served, replicators take up too much weapon power, and uniforms are different
and darker too. The whole effect gives us a very good insight into this awful
timeline.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s lovely also to see the
red uniforms from the movies used for the Enterprise C staff and the adding to
the brilliance of this episode are the characters Captain Garrett, a strong
female captain I wish I could see more of and Lt Richard Castillo, who helps
Yar provide exposition in a nice way and goes on to save the day. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

it’s a perfect premise, I like very much that no explanation is forthcoming to
the nature of the anomaly – it’s beside the point and would have spoiled
something for me. The simple fact is history has been altered; its
ramifications are enormous so history and therefore present time are restored.
That simple premise gives scope for some brilliant emotional storytelling and
most of all a noble and better death for Tasha Yar, a character who was
initially bumped off in a less than dignified manner. It gives nice resolution
for her and a very satisfying watch for the viewer. This episode is also
somewhat of a stripped down episode – there’s not much technobabble – something
the series was in the habit of doing – there is nothing extraneous, everything
that needs to be there is there and nothing more and that helps so much with
the believability of the second timeline and this episode is one of the shining
jewels over the entire Star Trek franchise as far as I am concerned – we will
not speak of any Romulan Yar descendants as that may well give me physical
pain! <o:p></o:p></span></div>

Here we are again, another auld SFX blog. This time a review of Robin of Sherwood, from about 2010 I think. I also think after reading this I absolutely need to watch this again and soon. Sometimes shitty weather is a treat isn't it, or at the very least permission to curl up with ya knitting and your spicy tea, mmmm spicy tea and watch something delicious. And this is really delicious. For more than one reason. It is probably on Netflix of Prime by now I would've thought. Did you love this? Did it haunt you? Sometimes unbidden, does this scrumptious face just pop into your head?<br />

<h3>
<o:p> </o:p>When I was a child in the 80’s the unmissable television
programme of the time was Robin of Sherwood. My overwhelming memories of the
series were: Michael Praed being the most beautiful human being I had ever
seen, the blond replacement being a bit rubbish and the episode with the Hounds
of Lucifer being the most terrifying thing I had ever seen – which I had
nightmares about well into adulthood!</h3>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
A chat with another geek about the wonderfulness of this
series led to an absolute desire to watch it again and see if this amazing
childhood series lived up to its memory.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As soon as the DVD box
set arrived it had to be watched! The Clannad theme music wrapped around me
like a warm blanket and as I couldn’t really remember any of the storylines it
was like watching a familiar thing for the first time – a lovely experience!
And did it live up to my vague and hazy childhood memories? No it did not; it
blew them out of the water! This series, this world is so fantastic, well
acted, whimsy and utterly real at the same time that I’m finding it difficult
to watch the last few episodes and leave the world behind again. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p><br /></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Robin of Loxley played by the intensely beautiful Michael
Praed is The Hooded Man, as the myths and legends tell, but he is far from
perfect. A strong leader and chosen son of Herne the Hunter, he has inner and
outer conflicts, he is sometimes nasty and often arrogant, his flaws making his
character real and believable. Judi Trott is Lady Marian, ethereal but strong
and determined – aside from an ability to be captured rather too readily, she
is a good female role model. Ray Winstone is the very, very ANGRY Will Scarlet,
probably the most difficult character to play, he is so disturbed by the rape
and murder of his wife that sometimes his morals and principles flounder, but
for the rest of the Merry Men you feel he would slip into badness. Little John
played by Clive Mantle may be my favourite of the gang, he, to me, is the heart
of the group, often affectionate and intensely protective. Nasir, the absolute
coolest character – he began as a henchman to the evil Baron de Bellame and
impressed so much he was written into the series – possibly the reason so few words
pop out of his mouth, a fabulous portrayal mostly by facial and body language
the actor Mark Ryan is a joy to watch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Friar Tuck as portrayed by Phil Rose is also adorable, his love for
Marian - his little flower, was initially the reason he stayed but the rest of
the team become just as important to him. Lastly of the Men is Much, well I say
men. Much is, well, he’s a bit thick, he worships Robin and thinks of him as
his big brother, he falls easily into traps and scrapes.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
And so we have the main band of heroes for the first two
series, running rings around the Sheriff of Nottingham – played by Nickolas
Grace, he hams it up somewhat, but I think with this character he gets away
with it with sarcastic aplomb -alongside the hapless <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Guy of Gisbourne played by Martin Clunes clone
Robert Addie. The pagan themes and witchcraft which abound is so redolent with
atmosphere and tension that it ups both the comedy and the drama which makes an
hour long episode fly by. I have a particular love of the fight scenes, back in
the days before wires and CGI the swords look heavy they make a very satisfying
clanging noise and the choreography is such that it looks incredibly realistic.
It also makes me wonder how much rehearsal went into each fight scene. There is
nothing better than the moment in each episode when Nasir goes for the double
swords strapped to his back, yay, fight! <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Whilst there is no particular arc to the first two series
there is character development and repercussions from events which occur in
each episode so you couldn’t say they were stand alone but it isn’t monster of
the week. And watching again the double episode which terrified me so badly as
a child; The Swords of Wayland, terrified me equally as an adult. Men with
animal skulls covering their faces, blood red cloaks billowing over sweating,
stamping horses, swords aloft and the haunting music swelling all around them,
I defy you not to have a little wibble!<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div>

Michael Praed decided to leave the show after the second
series, and the writers took the incredibly brave decision to kill Robin
instead of replace him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The final
episode in which Robin is surrounded and understands his defeat, when he sends
his love and his brother away knowing he will <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>be torn to pieces by the Sheriffs men is
utterly heartbreaking. I cried like a massive girl. Robin’s sacrifice is so
perfect and true to his character. The “new” Robin is set up here, dressed in
Robin Hood’s clothes he rescues the Merry Men from the Sheriff and joins the
back of the funeral ceremony before disappearing again.<o:p></o:p></div>

Series three begins with the former family like group
disbanded. Herne the Hunter, god of the forest chooses a new son in Robert of
Huntingdon played by Jason Connery. I have a memory of not liking this
incarnation of Robin at all, hating Connery for not being Praed. But watching
this again as an adult my judgement was impaired. I like Connery’s portrayal.
The series opens with Robert fighting against his destiny to begin with before
finally giving in for his love of Marian. He has to win the trust of the Merry
Men to get them back and this is done tactfully and not easily. Robert has to
reform this broken family and it doesn’t happen immediately. This, again, gives
realness to the programme. Nothing is hurried; Robert becomes Robin as the name
has become a title which he inherits. Connery’s version of the Hooded Man is
less assuredly acted and a little wooden but he does portray just as strong a
leader but there is an edge missing to the character - he’s a much nicer chap, but
Connery does do a better job than I
remembered! There is an outstandingly manic and crazed guest appearance this
series from a very young Richard O’Brien which is utterly worth a repeated
watching! I haven’t been able to finish
this series yet, I have a few episodes to go, but I’ve been putting it off
don’t want to leave these people and this world behind.</div>

day is astounding, I doubt they could get away with it now. This is a crying
shame. Will the BBC’s recent Robin Hood adaptation have such a lingering effect
on the youth of today? I somehow doubt it. <o:p></o:p></div>

Phew!It has been a long time since this Whittle has Waffled hasn't it? Who knew blogs even still existed? Well ya bugger.<br />
<br />
I recently found a whole load of (unedited) blogs I wrote over the years for the SFX website and other things like Hub etc and thought I might stick them on here so I can still find them. Some not relevant, some really old reviews - but most still purchasable books or watchable films or telly so yer nah, whatever. It's my blog innit. So bits and bobs of my writing. Coming at you in spurts...as it were.<br />
<br />
First up this, written in 2009 I think. Probably for SFX can't remember. (I have added pic and video) I don't know what Alasdair said to me, if you're reading this mate and you remember - let me know!<br />
<br />
FYI, I feel this passionately about Superman now, if not moreso. (Would I still argue for it being best Comic Book Movie ever made...I'm not sure. I need to think about it, maybe that is another NEW blog AHA!) I tried to make my 15 month daughter watch it with me on Monday but she was having none of it so we compromised and I got to watch it on my own while she was napping then she got to watch 3 hours of Hey Duggee! Seemed legit at the time...anyhoo on with the old bloggage!<br />

much of an influence Superman The Movie has been on me and my geek girl status.
I have an overriding affection for this film and it is in the forefront of my
mind at the moment after I appeared on The Eclectic Podcast recently and argued
my case for it be The Greatest Comic Book Movie Ever Made. I’m pretty sure I
won that argument ahem! I also talked about it on my guest spot on the Comic
Racks Podcast then I realised I’d written about it in my application email to
blog for SFX.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>So it’s a much more
important film to me than even I recognised.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Why the love? You may well ask, the film does have a lot of
flaws, it looks quite dated these days and some parts of it are desperately
cheesy (the “can you read my mind” section springs immediately to mind!). I
think the answer is in the main two actors, Christopher Reeve and Margot
Kidder. Kidder’s Lois Lane is wonderful, she’s smart, sassy incredibly
confident yet very loveable. She is an inspirational lady.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Superman is
really good and believable, but Superman isn’t the interesting character and
it’s Reeve’s performance as Clark Kent that sets this movie so far apart from
everything else for me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
There is a moment, a tiny moment mere seconds in the movie
when Clark is in Lois’ apartment waiting for her and he obviously (nothing is
said!) decides he is going to reveal his secret identity to her, he talks off
his glasses, he unfurls to his full height and he ceases to be Clark Kent and
it is clear to anyone that it is Superman in a black suit standing there. He
suddenly changes his mind, his glasses are back on, he loses height and his
speaking voice changes and there is no trace of that superman there at all. It
is pitch perfect, it is an astounding piece of character acting, those 30 odd
seconds are what take this movie from good to great. That moment can easily
reduce me to tears. The affection that Superman or maybe Christopher Reeve
himself has for Clark is also very apparent within his performance, he
obviously is having enormous fun with the character and that joy is infectious.
These characters are whole and real to me. I know Lois likes her hamburgers
with everything on and her orange juice with no bits in it. I know about her
passion for her job and her love for Superman. I know that Clark loves Lois and
that Superman can be more human than some people can and he is certainly not an
emotionless man. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div>

I do know that my passion doesn’t come from the comics; I
have to admit I have never read a Superman comic and really wouldn’t know where
to start if I did.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Nostalgia<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>has a part
to play, I can’t remember how old I was when I first saw this film (which I am
only a year older than) but I was very small, and I have seen it countless
times, I’ve watched it so many times that I can talk along with the dialogue
and it never, ever gets old. So it does have long term affection tied into it.
And there is the fact that the opening bars of the awesome theme music can give
me goose bumps.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I won’t give you my Superman Returns rant, that *does* get
old and I won’t start in on my almost as deep love for the second Superman film

love Superman the Movie and I always will! <o:p></o:p></div>

I fooking love them) of course I need something I wrote in one of them at some point, now so can't find it. Anyway I did find this, I can't actually remember writing it but it must have been during my last bout of insomnia several years ago - it made me smile so I thought I'd share it.<br />

<b><u>Thursday Night</u></b><br />
Dogs barking<br />
Cars starting<br />
Boys shouting<br />
Girls laughing<br />
Doors slamming<br />
Walls shaking<br />
Glass breaking<br />
Sirens wailing.<br />
Stairs creaking<br />
Music playing<br />
Feet running<br />
Heels clumping<br />
House sighing<br />
Baby crying<br />
Him snoring<br />
Cat purring<br />
Me sleeping?<br />
Not fucking likely! <br />

<br />
In other news, no Strictly bloggage this week as I was away at Thoughtbubble, which I will talk about next Whittle Waffle, so I still haven't seen the results show. BUT me and Izobel did watch The Hough and Amber Riley do their show dance on Dancing With The Stars, and though he is slightly clothed for my liking, I'm still liking! Enjoy.<br />

I also can be found on the latest episode of Geek Syndicate, which is a Thoughtbubble and Doctor Who special...which means I got to chat about comics and Who - two of my most favourite things!<br />
You can listen to that <a href="http://geeksyndicate.co.uk/2013/11/22/geek-syndicate-thought-bubble-2013-dr-50th-special/" target="_blank">HERE</a> and because I mention this photo of Patrick Troughton - whom I utterly adore you can look at it too, it's toggletastic darlings!<br />

Woohooooooo it's Blackpool week. I love this week, I love how hyper excited everyone gets, the OTT nature of it and how it has a sense of occasion. Lovely. Lets rock on...rock on...I'm so fooking funny! Firstly the opening dance with all the little kiddies and the whole cast and the older folks etc was wonderful I utterly loved it. Brilliant and we're off to a flying start<br />
<br />
Sophie and Brendan - Quickstep<br />
LOVED it. A very Hollywood quickstep, lovely storytelling and pace and so nice to see her a bit more relaxed and smiling - I think it's a hair thing yer nah. If you pinned my hair back so tight it didn't move for an entire day, I think I'd struggle to appear full o sexy too. But that hair flying wild she's FREE, FREEEEEEEEe! Nice. I also love how she really thanked the extra dancers for catching her so beautiful. Free and well mannered, go Sophie!<br />
Me - 9 Judges 7? 9,9,9<br />
<br />
Patrick and Anya - Samba<br />
Those stupid Samba bumjobs I'm surprised we don't have more incidents like this. AWWW I felt for her though. The malfunction just threw them off..I was so sad. Bless em. He has the sexy hips and everything it could've been so good. Ah well there was the remains of a really good dance about it!<br />
Me - 8 Judges 8,9,9,9<br />
<br />
Ben and Kristina - American Smooth<br />
CENSORED ...beautiful facial expressions which made me think CENSORED..oooh and those lifts which couldn't fail to bring to mind CEEEEEEENNNNNNNNSSSSSOOOOOOOOORRRRRED.<br />
HEll YES! Let's have another look at it eh?<br />
Me - 10 (fook off we've had this conversation!) Judges 8,8,8,8<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/jC1fuywv5go?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
Ashley and Ola - Paso Doble<br />
Cowboy Paso? Really? I thought with - I'll be honest with you - a cynical and bemused air! I kind of loved that. I think they really pulled it off. The best bit is how well Ashley danced with the other male dancers, he really did not look out of place at all and I think that was a brave decision. Bonkers but brilliant!<br />
Me - 9 Judges 8.9.9.9<br />
<br />
Fiona and Anton - American Smooth<br />
Although this is her best dance so far it was littered with mistakes, timing issues and awkwardness. Nice frock though! So yer nah, not all bad!<br />
Me - 6 Judges 6,7,8,8<br />
<br />
Abbey and Aljaz - Quickstep<br />
Beautiful and joyous, I loved watching this. I loved the bit where she forgot herself a little and started singing. I think there was a bit of gapping, I noticed that too but it wasn't too bad and I think Mr RH was a little hard on these two this week<br />
me - 9 Judges - 7, 10,10,10<br />
<br />
Mark and Iveta - Jive<br />
I found that painful to watch I'm afraid, stompy, slow horrid feet. It looked hard work. I watched through my fingers. Still though, 100% better than last week in my opinon! At least it wasn't creepy! Another contender for the Dance Off methinks!<br />
Me - 5 Judges 5,8,8,8<br />
<br />
Susanna and Kevin from Grimsby - Paso Doble<br />
My dance of the night, I loved the proper old school feel to both the tone and look of it. I loved the music. It felt so appropriate to Blackpool week. Susanna is really understanding and picking up the 'character' of the dances more now and you can see it in both her reaction afterwards as well as throughout the dance. I just loved it. Also the dude was rocking them fancy pants oooh oooh and talking about pants did you see her flashing hers left right and centre it was a freaking PANTS FEST! More of this type of thing please! <br />
Me - 10 Judges 9, 10,10,10<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/7ONCE5aGfaQ?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
Natalie and Artem - Charleston<br />
Fab, very stylish absolutely beautifully performed with sense of humour and character. I really should look forward to these two dancing more. But there's something not working for me, there doesn't seem to be that much of a connection between them. Mebbe they're too good. I dunno can't put my finger on it but I really enjoyed the dance and the music choice<br />
me - 9 Judges 9, 10,10,10<br />

RESULTS!<br />
<br />
LOVED the opening dance with the old school feel to it. Brilliant! The bottom two are as totally expected Mark and Iveta and Anton and Fiona. And now for some entertainment oh oh NO NO stop wheeling out bloody bloody bloody BLOODY BLOODY Andre Rieu, he is full of Bill Oddie weirdness that upsets my flight or fight instinct, I can't bloody, bloody bear it. Oh don't worry because here's some more 'entertainment' oh no sorry my mistake it's JLS. WEll, I think my midlife crisis is kicking into old lady grumpy overdrive....erm maybe.<br />
<br />
So we wave a goodbye to Fiona and Anton, they had a good innings as we grumpy old ladies are wont to say. I think Mark and Iveta caught a break - let's see how they cope next week!<br />
<br />
As is becoming normal here is a video of Derek Hough - this isn't even from a current series but I don't even care because I am borderline obsessed and slightly stalkery!<br />
